The World of Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred
New Region: Nahantu
The expansion introduces Nahantu, a lush jungle region south of Sanctuary, also known as Torajan. This new area offers a distinct environment filled with blood, darkness, and foreboding atmosphere, similar to other regions in Diablo 4. Players will explore familiar locations like Kurast Docks and Travincal, 72 years after the events of Diablo 2.
Story and Campaign
The story picks up from where Diablo 4 left off, following Neyrelle’s journey across Sanctuary with the soulstone housing Mephisto, the prime evil. The expansion aims to honor Mephisto's legacy while introducing new narrative elements. Players new to the game won't need to play through the original story, as a recap will be provided.
Classes
New Class: Spiritborn
A major highlight of the expansion is the introduction of the Spiritborn class, themed around the jungle environment. The Spiritborn, described as the apex predator of the jungle, brings new gameplay styles and mystical synergies unique to the Diablo series. Blizzard will showcase a detailed class deep dive on July 18 at 11 AM PT, covering design, gameplay, lore, and more.
Class Updates
All existing classes in Diablo 4 will receive updates, including new skills, Paragon Boards, Legendary Paragon Glyphs, and more. However, it's not yet clear if the expansion will increase the character level cap.
Systems
Mercenaries
"Vessel of Hatred" introduces mercenaries, companions with unique abilities who level up alongside the player. These mercenaries will have their own skill trees, adding depth to the gameplay.
Co-op Endgame Activity
The expansion will also feature a new co-op endgame dungeon. This dungeon requires teamwork to overcome its challenges and promises substantial rewards for those who succeed.
