The latest Diablo 4 update on the Vessel of Hatred introduces significant changes to the endgame and on the Pit. For those interested in maximizing their progress in the game, understanding how the Pit integrates with the new Torment Difficulties and the Paragon Glyph system is essential.
Unlocking Torment Difficulties Through the Pit
The Pit is now central to unlocking the new Torment Difficulties. As you progress through the Pit’s Tiers, you gain access to higher levels of Torment, which offer better rewards but also increase the challenge. Here’s how the unlocking works:
Level 60 unlocks the Pit and Tiers 1–20.
Pit Tier 20 completion unlocks Torment I.
Pit Tier 35 completion unlocks Torment II.
Pit Tier 50 completion unlocks Torment III.
Pit Tier 65 completion unlocks Torment IV.
Each higher Torment Difficulty increases the likelihood of encountering Legendary and Ancestral items, making it essential to progress through the Pit if you want to access the best gear.
Torment Difficulty Curses
Playing in Torment Difficulties introduces Curses that reduce your Armor and Resistances. These penalties increase with each Torment Tier:
Torment I: -250 Armor, -25% All Resist
Torment II: -500 Armor, -50% All Resist
Torment III: -750 Armor, -75% All Resist
Torment IV: -1000 Armor, -100% All Resist
This makes the Pit not only a place of progression but also a test of how well you can adapt to reduced defenses.
Paragon Glyph Upgrades in the Pit
The update also changes how Paragon Glyphs are upgraded. Previously tied to Nightmare Dungeons, Glyph upgrading is now fully integrated into the Pit. Here’s how it works:
Upgrade Attempts: Instead of being experience-based, Glyph upgrades now rely on attempts earned by completing Pit Tiers.
Artificer’s Mastery: Successfully completing this grants three upgrade attempts, with a bonus attempt for not dying.
Scaling Upgrades: Completing Pit Tiers significantly higher than your Glyph’s current Rank provides bonus upgrades. For every 20-level difference between the Pit Tier and the Glyph Rank, you receive an additional upgrade.
The maximum Glyph level has increased to 100. Once a Glyph reaches Level 45, it can be upgraded to a Legendary Glyph, which increases its Radius Size and adds an additional affix.
Upcoming Changes and Rumors
In addition to these confirmed updates, there have been discussions about further changes to the Pit, including adjustments to the boss's health and the removal of random one-shot mechanics. However, these changes have not yet been confirmed. Players should stay tuned for more information as Blizzard continues to refine and evolve the endgame experience coming in Vessel of Hatred.
